An elegant cabinet containing six matching map portfolios, a series of six continental maps from the Atlas spheroidal et universel de geographie. (Garnier, F. A., 1803-1863, 1862) . These maps are noted not only for their beauty, but for being among the first to depict the continents on a globe, shaded to resemble a sphere.  The box is bound in navy blue bookcloth paper and lined with Japanese chiyogami paper, and has a silver magnetic closure
