It Came Upon The Midnight Clear
1 1/2" x 2 1/8"
42 pages, 10 illustrations
"Still through the cloven skies
they come, with peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats o'er all the weary world"
One
of the most beautiful of all Christmas carols, the original poem was
written by Edmund Hamilton Sears, a Unitarian minister, in 1849. The
illustrations depict a desert landscape at night, and the angels'
presence is subtly suggested by a lone feather dropping through the
clear sky, backlit by a star.
The book is bound in silver paper, and has a paper title on the front,
and decorative endpapers.
