Flying Carpet
64 pages, 32 illustrations.
1 1/2" x 1 1/8"
"Original
flying carpets were formerly inanimate textiles ensorcelled by magical
practitioners of some kind, and once released by, or escaped from,
their masters, became
the feral carpets of the Dark Ages. These degenerated into the wild
flying carpets we know today, and it is with the few recorded sightings
of
these magnificent and playful carpets that this book deals."
-from the introduction
An
album of flying carpet sightings through (made-up) history. Examples
range from a sorcerer animating a carpet in 17th century Bulgaria, to a
leather shag throw rug landing at Amsterdam Airport in 1982. There is a
deceptively dry and academic introduction detailing
the
history, biology, and behavior of these rare events.
The book is bound in sky-blue paper, with paper titles pasted on the
front and spine, and decorative endpapers.
