A wide-ranging bestiary (pisciary?) of creatures that live, or once lived, or might have lived, in water. The list includes salt- and fresh-water specimens from folklore and legend, and the recent discoveries of almost extraterrestrial looking organisms from the very deep ocean. Each example is accompanied by a contemporary quotation about its history or poetic meaning, if I could find one, and a short description, if not.

This is a special slipcased edition, limited to 25 copies, that includes a folded map tucked into a pocket on the side of the case. It shows the location of the major Gods of the Sea in the world's mythology. Both the book and the slipcase are bound in dark red bookcloth, and lined with brown and cream marbled paper.
