A
beautiful and mysterious box of unknown (possibly ceremonial) purpose,
its colors rich and somber, its wear and discoloration the patina of
centuries.
The box is constructed of binder's board, paper, and
wood, and is decorated with glass and metal beads and jewelery
findings. The wooden sections are covered with paper printed with old
architectural drawings, and the floor and lid are covered in real
papyrus. The long sides of the box are glass microscope slides, and the
underside of the lid contains a secret glass-covered cache of sequins
that might be gold coins. Poles are attached to the sides for transport
by porters. The patina of centuries referenced above has been achieved
by the use of watercolor paints.
